Smile, its Monday morning!

I wish every Monday morning could start this way. I have just received photos and a lovely note from Vicky and Thomas, who i created a wedding cake for this summer. I have a smile stretching from ear to ear. As you will see from the picture below they make a very gorgeous couple.

I just wanted to send a note to say a MASSIVE thanks for making our wedding day so special with the amazing cake!   From the planning stages – where Fran provided numerous idea’s, 1:1 customisation of the cake and a specific tasting session – through to the delivery of a unbelievably delicious, innovative and visually stunning cake on our wedding day, the experience was absolutely superb!  Fran really did provide exceptional service from start to finish, the cake was beautiful and tasted absolutely divine, we still have guests commenting on how amazing it was!

We would certainly recommend Fran to others and will certainly be booking again for any future parties we host!!!

Many thanks again!

Vicky & Thomas

Ever wondered what Venice tastes like?

Chocolate with Vanilla buttercream strangely enough. When i had the call from Sophie to make a Venetian inspired cake to celebrate her Dads 90th birthday there was a certain amount of head scratching involved. With far too many beautiful sights to choose from i figured i may as well get as many in as i could, from the Rialto Bridge to the domes of the Basilica. It was also a nice excuse to get the gold leaf out, love a bit of gold leaf.

Pearls and Patience

When Ann and her daughter Katie came to me with their wedding cake ideas, the thought of a cake covered in pearls really captured my imagination. Simply stunning. After 6 hours and a few hand cramps from placing all the pearls on with tweezers, i was feeling very Zen. The top tier is Madagascan Vanilla and Raspberry, the cupcakes are Madagascan Vanilla sponge and buttercream with a Raspberry jam filling.

I feel like i should do a ‘guess how many pearls on the cake’ competition.

Here are a few close ups of the pearls, i used a selection of colours and sizes to add depth.

Cake is the new currency

The lovely Margaret was in need of a birthday cake to celebrate her granddaughters 17th birthday and another for her builder, who came to her rescue but insisted he was paid in cake. If only you could pay for everything in cake. I wonder how many cakes i would need for a new car?

The boys birthdays

The boys birthdays

This cake is always a good last minute option when time is not on your side. The chocolate and vanilla layers add a bit of fun when you cut into the cake. The outside is covered in chocolate ganache and coloured sprinkles which looks great even if you slap it on!
It seams my 2 brothers are never too old for a birthday cake.

Oh so elegant but oh so secretly boozy.

I had a lovely couple round for a cake tasting a few months ago and from this came the elegant cake you see before you. After a few different flavour combinations the groom decided to go with the grown up versions. For the bottom tier chocolate and orange with a large dash of Cointreau, the middle was lemon with a Limoncello syrup, the top was kept as a child friendly option, madagascan vanilla with fresh raspberries. The Limoncello syrup is so simple to make and unbelievably tasty. I won’t lie i did make a little extra and kept it in my fridge as a refreshing treat! It didn’t last long though.
